Today, both the Manteca Bulletin and the Stockton Record ran prominent stories about Lathrop politics. Bulletin editor Dennis Wyatt defended Mayor Kristy Sayles against some of the 'brutal' attacks being made on her including from his own newspaper. In the article he links the mailer recently sent out by Lathrop's Dan MacNeilage to TCN Properties (Tom and Cathie Luckey) by their postal permit number. Isn't that curious?
The Bulletin's assassin, Rose Albano-Risso, wrote a story about Lathrop's city manager, Yvonne Quiring, who is supposed to be getting a sum of $335,000 to leave her position today. At the core of the termination supposedly is a letter from the city employees union, SEIU, complaining about Quiring. Between the unions and the developers, who's really running things at city hall? Both groups seem to wield undue power and have enough money and influence to mobilize and destroy people they don't like.
The Record story is about the 'vicious' campaign against Sayles and her request to have the grand jury investigate the website behind most of it, kristysayles.com. Two of Sayles' opponents, Robert Oliver and John Rock, were quoted in the article as decrying the nastiness of the website, but say Sayles brought some of it on herself. Oliver basically says that it's what Sayles deserves because "she attacked local developers." Rock thinks it's only a handful of people posting under different names and that the website has its positives because information about Sayles is getting out and "people are getting involved." (getting involved in libel maybe)
Two weeks ago the Record weakly endorsed Robert Oliver, saying it was more a vote of no confidence against Sayles.

The mailing permit number is by the company in Stockton that provided printing and mass mailing. Kristy herself told me of this company being the most economical......She has used it herself! The Mailer was of my own doing in response to the deceptions I recieved in my mailbox via her campaign mailers. I felt the need to do something rather than sit around on this stupid computer and snivel. The dollar amounts were ascertained from her finacial documents submitted.....SHE signed the checks to Richland after recieving 10,000.00 dollars for her campaign. She chose to call Developers evil and no good and robbing our Gen'l Fund......So Kristy......just write a check back to all those evil dudes you accepted their hard earned dough from......Im sure they would gladly take it back.
ReplyDeleteYou will put your own twist on all this....I could really care less......there is nothing you can say or do to or about me that amounts to a hill of beans......At Kristy's request last summer.....I researched city documents and actions of our staff regarding the pay as you go.....she does not represent the facts as they really occur..........By the way Jackie....how did you know what was going to happen before it was announced to the Gen'l public......did Kristy call you?
Dan Mac Neilage
I saw that Kristy failed to list her FPPC ID number on her mailers. That would be a violation. I will be filing a complaint tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteDan, We are distressed at finding what poor judges of character we are as it relates to you!
ReplyDeleteKristy has discussed with Mr. Cavco
ReplyDeleteother items from closed door sessions in the past and that pertained to Mr. Griffith project as it was being built. Maybe she doesn't understand the term closed door as she has a major lack of education and just recently recieved her GED so she says has anyone really ever seen it? Is she really taking classes at Delta? If so when does she find time to run her business? and even more important find time to sprnd with her own children? as I notice them having to walk home from school. She is at the very least a poor example of a mother maybe she should move in with her mother robin and take some lessons as the was I understand it her own mother would not let her really live with her the whole time she was growing up.
Last year the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that "closed session" meetings were not "secret." "Closed" just means the public isn't present but nothing that goes on is supposed to be "secret." I'll never understand why Californians permit the government to keep things secret and tell us bits and pieces that they feel like.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of smart people that go back and get a GED. That's the mark of someone who doesn't "give up." How many people just sit around never finishing school and complain about their life? At least she's put forth the effort and risen above adverse circumstances.
Sure, I think your pet monkey is qualified to take classes at Delta College but on the on the other hand, it's a lot better than nothing.
I've noticed the gridlock of truck-like vehicles at the schools every morning and afternoon, picking up and dropping off kids and I wonder at what point in time did it become unfashionable to walk to school like all my friends and I did? She should be given an award for teaching her kids to put forth the effort to go to school. And taking care of their own transportation is a great life lesson for them, not to mention the benefits to health and well being.
Yes a lot of people go back and get their GED. I just have never heard of a current Mayor doing that.
ReplyDeleteHello Jackie and everyone on Manteca Live
ReplyDeleteAs I reflect on all of this and also hear one candidate has a degree in American History, it ushers in good and bad thoughts. Is all of this an unruly mob or, citizens fighting to rebuild government? Do we as viewers watch the money trail or celebrate civic responses to an election?
Some call it mud slinging, I tend to see it as a strenuous process seen in open governments around the globe. Quite interesting indeed.
Jackie, you quoted a phrase of an article (Shown below) which was only a portion of an interview. You added your personal note: getting involved in libel maybe.
." Rock thinks it's only a handful of people posting under different names and that the website has its positives because information about Sayles is getting out and "people are getting involved." (getting involved in libel maybe)
The below information shows I am correct in my beliefs that when the public gets involved, our political system is working. Here is what the City Clerk reports:

I thought you would all be interested to know that we just received the 15 day close of registration report from the Registrar indicating that we have 5,280 registered voters within the City of Lathrop. This is up 587 since the 15 day close of registration report for the 6/3/08 Special Election.

I John Rock, detest all of the negatives made toward Kristy. I have said it many times and most of the time it is dismissed. Individuals are out there in cyber space posting this or that anonymously most all of which is biased on one side or the other. Like I said above I tend to see it as a strenuous process seen in open governments around the globe. If you Jackie suppress people from making comments pro or con by making an individual feel they may be held libel in a court, to me it is stiffening our civic communications. As painful as some of this is, the report from the San Joaquin County Registrar of voters indicating that we have 587 new registered voters in Lathrop is a very positive and healthy indicator of our political health.
When I walked the streets seeking supporters, I handed out voter registration forms. I care more that people get involved than who may vote for me. This should be quite obvious after you read my web page and pdf flier. It should also be very interesting that I ask for no money and if you vote for me, consider replacing me. I want NEW people to get involved and run for an office. How on earth can I encourage an average person to do so when they read about your words on libel or see the hatred against Kristy in the media by a few individuals?
I will not bash Kristy but I will say I feel I am a better candidate for the job. That is what a candidate is supposed to do!
Today I learned that the City Manager of Lathrop resigned. That to me is not good by any standard. I can only pray that Mr. XYZ and his supporters have the skills, knowledge and abilities to rebuild what has been bashed so aggressively. I am NOT saying or indicating that any member of the council did a wrong or orchestrated an attack on both Kristy and Yvonne but rather, after Nov 4th, they shall have some heavy lifting to complete before our Lathrop is back on track.
Much of this is quite sad and may be a kin to our political processes but still, painful to view.

Hello John, thank you for your comments.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little surprised that you would accuse me of suppressing comments from the public since Manteca Live allows any and all views here. Libel and defamation lawsuits have been around long before Manteca Live mentioned it.
The man who runs kristysayles.com was just recently ordered to pay civil damages in excess of $165,000 for defaming someone using the exact same tactics and method of operation.
I think it's worth noting that some things MAY be considered libelous and defamatory and that people SHOULD consider what they're writing and whether it's true or just vicious gossip. The internet hasn't changed the law though it seems to have changed people's notion of civility.
Your are academically correct Jackie.
ReplyDeleteI don’t need to be Mayor for any other reason than to get some issues fixed for the public.
I entered the race because I saw we have a small group here in Lathrop that seeks to control things and I want to build a positive relationship with Manteca and Tracy. Possibly the biggest motivator to me personally is the idea that I could win or get very close to winning just by being polite, professional and not accepting money. This quest was to encourage the everyday citizen to consider entering local politics. If I can get people to become involved, I have accomplished a good deed.
I feel if there was an open public debate, I have the verbal skills, the wealth of experiences to draw from that would set most contenders back on their heals. I can think fast on my feet and move forward for “The People” not me personally. Possibly a nice guy can’t make it in today’s political environment? If it takes me to be as mean as some of the others are, leave me out of the politics.
Hello Dan,
ReplyDeleteI got confirmation today that the mailing permit is indeed held by Boss Business Systems in Stockton and not TCN.
On this stuff about the mayor taking campaign donations from developers and then calling them evil and no good, so she should give them their donations back, I'm curious. Do you think that someone who accepts donations for a political campaign owes the donors favors after they're elected? Like a quid pro quo?
Giving donations in expectation of political favors is usually considered bribery
I am not saying that if you give a donation that you get special favors......I am saying that if you accept 10,000.00 from a developer or anyone else.....you should not be running around town representing the city and calling them dirty rat bastards.....She could have done that(return the money) and spoken volumns of her position against the evil developer rather than champion a cause to bankrupt them and keep their money......Who made her deputy and caregiver of our ordinances anyway?......Last I checked.....we were regulated by a city staff and 4 other council members....not a self rightious damsel out on the lookout for the "Bad Guys" stealing money from the gen'l fund with their ATM cards.......If you are gong to dog them and tell everyone in your mailers that these people ripped us off and lied and cheated our children out of parks and safe place to play......why are you keeping money from people like that? wouldnt that taint you? Am I the only one that thinks this is wrong?
