Lathrop prospers under Sayles leadership

At the last meeting in Lathrop, we heard how "bad" Mayor Sayles is and how she sent development to Manteca. Well, oddly enough, the mayor of Manteca doesn't agree. In this video from 15 Sep 2008, Mayor Weatherford points out all the mistakes Manteca has made and how all the new development is going to Lathrop!

So Mayor Sayles of Lathrop must be doing something right. At least that's what the leaders in Manteca say.

  1. Are you from this planet? I was in attendence at that meeting. Willie was referring to a consultants report. The hotels he is pointing out were constructed 5-6 years ago......Mayor Sayles was not in office or on any type of commitee you fool.......and by the way......changes were made at the building dept in Manteca that Willie made reference to and that is why half of the proposed bussinesses that were scheduled to be built at Lathrop Marketplace along side the new Target ended up in the Stadium Center in MANTECA.

  2. Thanks for your comments.

That's right his comments were to the economist giving a report. The mayor's comments are not "out of context" as presented in this video clip. He was saying exactly what it sounds like he's saying.

You may or may not agree with the mayor, but that's what he said.

What "changes" at the building dept? The only changes I've seen is that favored people get their projects approved and the un-favored get them denied.

People can make all sorts of arguments about who is responsible for what. When it's something "bad" they say "I wasn't mayor at the time" but when it's something "good" -- well that's a different story. You never hear the politicians say "well I really had nothing to do with this wonderful thing..." instead they say "the wonderful project was envisioned years ago and we've been working on this etc." I.e. when it's something good, whoever is mayor right now gets the credit, when it's something bad then it was caused by some "previous council."

And for detractors, it's exactly opposite! Whatever bad thing that happens is blamed on the current mayor and if any good thing happens they say "that only occurred because the previous mayor smith did this that or the other thing" etc.

No one "knows" where some hotel or building "would have been built" -- no matter if it's in Manteca, Lathrop, or whatever. All these shrewd businesses say things like "they/we almost moved somewhere else, but when you kicked in that last million dollars, well that sealed the deal" or something like that. The reason is to try to get more money from us, keep us thinking we have to give them money, etc.

By the way, that whole economic theory of paying developers to "bring in" things is wrong anyway. So is that idea about "tax leakage" and almost all the nonsense they make up.

  3. Turf wars return.... Manteca v. Lathrop, blah, blah, blah. The problem Mayor Sayles and the current City administration has nothing to do with development and everything to do with lack of accountability. Many Lathrop citizens know this, and will be voting accordingly in November... don't believe the hype...

  4. I agree with the 3rd message on this blog.....My name is Dan Mac Neilage and I submitted the first blog on this subject......when I campaigned for a failed position at lathrop city council last June, I spent many hours talking with several Manteca and Lathrop residents in regards to the seemingly on-going fued between Manteca and Lathrop. There were many that simply told me it had been going on so long that they really werent sure how it began. It was my hope that if I was successful that I may be able to play a roll in mending some of these fences........We are neighbors for goodness sakes!
I personally like and respect Willie Weatherford.....He put me under his wing at a planning commissioners convention in San Diego a few years back and drilled into me the importance of what we do when we VOLUNTEER for city government......that is what we are supposed to be......community service volunteers.......we make the best decisions based on the information available to us......We take into account how our decisions effect the population and not just a chosen few.....He meant these words when he spoke them.....and I beleived him then as I do today.I consider him a friend and I felt his integrity was being challenged.
I could have used diffrent words when I responded to American Hero......I was wrong to do that or say that your opinion does not matter or count.....if I knew you personally.....I would have said this to your face.....I do not have to agree with you......but you have just as much right to your thoughts as any one else here.
So much is being said these days in regards to politics.....I am grateful I did not succeed in my quest for council.......There is still a large part of my personality that thinks a gut wrenching slobber knocker is the answer when someone attacks me or one of my friends......I sometimes come out agressive and wiliing to fight......Maybe we can learn what we are doing is wrong and unproductive in solving our problems and teach our kids a kinder way to resolve conflict without character assasinations.......just maybe.....just maybe I should heed my own words because I have been guilty myself of saying and writing inappropriate things on these darn blogs......I seem to justify it by walloring in presumed self-rightiousness of telling the truth as i see it.......but it is MY TRUTH and it may not be your truth......I forgot what my late wife taught me years ago......That in a disagrement that both parties can be right.....someone doesnt always have to be wrong..........
So dude.....and or anyone else I offended.....I apologize and will try to refrain in the future.
    Dan
